The Writing Process
Today's session was an interesting one. Ms. Biscette introduced the class to "The Writing Process" in a very creative way. She had us singing a catchy tune, then had us manipulating play dough.
To begin, she had us brainstorming, we were to think of something that we wanted to create but it had to be created for a particular individual or group of persons. This one idea was the use of that one color play dough which she provided. After brainstorming, we shared our ideas with each other then, we gave constructive feedback in return. Ms. Biscette subsequently stuck different color play dough on the board then, she allowed us to freely choose other colors that we wanted to use to create our pieces. At that point we were at the drafting stage. This was our favorite part of the writing process for us as a group, persons were molding very unusual but interesting pieces, sharing play dough (collaborating) with each other to make adjustments to their pieces and even coming up with new ideas for a different creation. This part of the process was liken to the social interaction which was needed as part of the writing process. After placing the finishing touches on our pieces, we were required to give it a title and state the intended audience. At this point we were ready to publish. We all viewed each others pieces, where each student got the opportunity to describe their piece, the purpose and the audience.
After viewing we were engaged in a class discussion, we went over the writing process, what each other the stages (pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing, publishing) involved. Persons highlighted that creating a piece with the play dough was the best part of the lesson and it helped the to better connect to the writing process and put their creative thinking to the test. Our group thought that this was perfect hands on activity, and we will definitely use it to introduce the writing process to their students when we return to their respective classrooms. To end the session Ms. Biscette reviewed "The Writing Process" song. "We are artist, we are artist, very creative artist..." This was to cement the process in our heads.
Title: Salty Air Summer 17
This island was created for persons who enjoy the sea breeze and the feeling of sand between their toes while on vacation. This isolated island helps put their mind at ease and truly embrace their solitude. #barefoot #sandytoes #saltyhair #summer17 by: InQuama Crichlow
Title: The Four Chamber Heart
This piece was first conjured as a snake, a red snake. As I continued the process and began collaborating I decided to change my theme to a more positive theme. It also emulated what we did earlier that week in SCI 102 with Ms. Regis where we discussed the function of the heart and the four chambers. I also placed a Christ-centered approach with a cross at the center. and arteries and veins leading in and out of it. #GodAtTheCenter #Love by: Al Eugene
Being creative with
play dough
This activity was not only fun but also,
engaging. We were asked to use play dough to communicate a message. In the
first try, I displayed sporting gears. The reason for this selection is because
am a lover of sports. After we displayed our first creation, our teacher viewed
it, and then asked us be a little more creative. After she said that, I
realized that is not only a pen and paper we can use to communicate but, it can
also be done in the form of creative art. It was such a joy to walk around the
class to view the beautiful creation of my classmates and listen to the message
behind it. #success

ReplyDeleteWe do hope that as you have learnt about the writing process in a creative way. that you all are able to return to the classroom to impact such creativity onto the students. Furthermore, we are elated to know that the hands on activity can make the class a very engaging and fun one. Do take some of what Miss impacted on all of you for future use.
ReplyDeleteI like that you were able to identify the collaborative nature of the writing process. Make the best use of the feature both as a teacher of writing and as a teacher writer. Your peers can help you create your masterpiece. They can be your audience to help you get your writing worthy of reading.
